Golf

Aberfoyle Golf Club presides over an 18 hole parkland golf course and although it is a village club, it is maintained to a very high standard. Visitors are welcome but may be restricted on some weekends. The course itself is a short 5204 yard par 66 but loved by those who play it. The club house has been recently renovated and visitors are always given a warm welcome. The 10th tee (Roderick), a short 115 yard lob is unique and both loved and hated by many. The course has magnificent scenery all around.

The Buchanan Castle Golf Club is just outside the village of Drymen. This is an 18 hole par 69 flat parkland course of around 6086 yards. There is also a 9 hole putting area which can be useful when waiting for a time slot. Visitors are welcome at the Buchanan Castle and according to their own website ".....is both challenging to the experienced golfer, yet forgiving to those who play less regularly."

Fishing

The lake of Menteith is at Port of Menteith and only 2 miles from Aberfoyle on the main Stirling Road. Drive to the port of Menteith and then turn right and head for the Lake Hotel. The fine 700-acre Lake of Menteith is arguably the finest rainbow trout water in Scotland. It is stocked with a thousand fish each week. The lake has excellent facilities at the Fishery Lodge which includes toilet facilities. There is also a generous sized area with a wood burning stove where anglers can have their snacks or lunch during inclement weather. There is also facilities for making tea or coffee which is free of charge. Disabled anglers are very welcome and there is a disabled toilet facility.

Hill Walking

In Scotland there are 284 Munros (mountains over 3000 feet) and 227 associated tops of 3000 feet or more as well as 219 Corbetts (mountains over 2500 feet and under 3000 feet with a minimum drop of 500 feet between peaks) providing a huge choice for high level walks and climbs. The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park has a good selection of both Munros and Corbetts to choose from.

If you are venturing into the mountains of Scotland please be safe and ensure that you carry appropriate kit for your walk or climb. There have been many deaths in the hills in the last decade and most can be attributed to inexperience or lack of equipment. Mountain weather can change very quickly and mist is very common.
